Watermelon Matcha Margaritas

This post is in partnership with Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company, but opinions are 100% my own.

Watermelon Matcha Margaritas are the perfect way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

TGTICDM. That’s my new acronym for Thank goodness tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. It’s kind of a trippy “holiday,” but any occasion that calls for indulging in Mexican food and Margaritas gets a big thumbs up from me.

I created this tequila-based concoction using Natalie’s new Matcha Lemonade and watermelon juice as the main ingredients. Don’t be intimidated by the watermelon juice, it’s so easy to make. You just throw some watermelon chunks in the blender and blend it up. You may have to add a little water or even better, a bit of lime juice to get it going. Then you can strain it (or not) and there you go, watermelon juice.

Natalie’s has joined the Matcha tea craze with their new Matcha Lemonade. I love that it’s made with only four ingredients: Matcha Tea, fresh lemons, Florida pure cane sugar, and water.

If you aren’t familiar it, here are some interesting things to know about Matcha. Matcha tea is made from powdered tea leaves. The leaves are dried and then ground into a fine powder. When you drink Matcha, you are ingesting the actual leaves, so you get more of the antioxidant benefits than you do with drinking more traditional steeped teas.

For this recipe, if you can’t locate Natalie’s Matcha Lemonade, you can create a substitute for it by making cold brew Matcha and adding freshly squeezed lemon juice and the sweetener of your choice. To make cold brew matcha, I fill a jar with a tight-fitting lid with about 12 ounces of water and then I add 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha and a teaspoon of honey. I put the lid on the jar and shake until the powder is mixed and begins to look a little frothy. Finally, I add a bit of lemon juice.

These Watermelon Matcha Margaritas are a fun way to get creative with your Cinco de Mayo festivities. If you are looking for other tequila cocktails, check out my Peach Margaritas, my Cucumber Margaritas, or a spin on my favorite cocktail, my Blood Orange Paloma.
