Owen’s 4th Birthday: Football Party!

Ready, set, hut!

We celebrated Owen’s 4th birthday at the end of April. At least six months before, he started talking about wanting a football party. I wasn’t overly excited about that theme, because I had a hard time imagining how I could make a football theme into a really cute party. I am so happy with the results though. Most importantly, he enjoyed a great party with his friends. He’s still talking about it.

I was so excited when my husband found the sweet little ceramic football player among some of his childhood things. Isn’t is adorable! When he brought that home, I knew the football theme was meant to be.

My inspiration came from these great FREE football party printables that I found over at Three Little Monkey’s Studio. She has food labels, favor tags, flags to use for cupcake toppers or straws, foam finger tags, 5×7 signs and 8×10 signs. I think I used a little of everything.  I love the chalkboard black and the green stripes! It’s fun and modern.

I decided to use green, black and orange (go Mercer!) for the colors for Owen’s party. Hopefully this Fall, we can re-use some of party supplies for tailgating at a Mercer football game. I used my chalkboard on the front door and just freehanded “Owen is 04.” I mimicked the Xs and Os from the printables.

A friend’s father made the chalkboard bunting that I used above the food table.

The party was at 3:00, so we kept the menu super simple and served concession stand food. The menu consisted of: chips, pretzels, popcorn, nachos, pigs in a blanket, ham delights, strawberries, and a small veggie tray.

For beverages, we served bottled water with cute little labels, lemonade and sweet tea. We had an adult beverage station, too, consisting of wine, beer and Gridiron Greyhounds.

For sweets, I made chocolate cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes, both with buttercream frosting.

My cookie lady, Sandy, made these amazing cookies. I am so in love with the stadium ones, especially.

For favors, I saved a bunch of football shaped eggs from Easter and filled them with jelly beans. I put them in a clear treat bag with a whistle. I tied one of the FREE printable tags to each bag.

Other decor included: pom poms made with tissue paper attached to wooden skewers, beaded necklaces with whistles and small megaphones. I bought eye-black stickers for all of Owen’s little “team mates.” His friends were encouraged to wear their favorite team’s colors.

My book paper wreath got treated to some decorations, too.

Hi Kim, My name is Mariah Olson, and I am a representative of Birthday Express. My job is to search the internet for outstanding children's birthday blogs that deserve recognition. When I came across the party for your son Owen's birthday, I knew immediately that there was a great deal of time and effort spent on this celebration! The special details that you included like the beautifully decorated football cupcakes and all the awesome football decorations made the party. I liked the idea of having such clever names for the food items, that was a nice touch! I thought it was really great that the adults had their own beverage station as well. On behalf of Birthday Express, we would like to offer you our "Best Birthday" badge for throwing such a sensational party. Congratulations--you and your little one deserve it! If you are interested, let me know and I'll send it your way. I can be reached at mariaholson12@gmail.com. Again, congratulations, and thank you for your time!
