Styled Photo Shoot: Rainbow Party Collection

by Kimbrough

rainbow party dessert table

My friend, J.D., is an amazing photographer. Last week, I asked him over to help me come up with a good set up for my home “studio” for photography for my blog and Etsy shop. I also asked him to give me some tips on food photography.

I have been working on a new little rainbow collection for my shop. I thought this would be an opportune time to get some great product photos. So, I decided to set up a styled dessert table for a rainbow party.

Here’s a cool twist. A couple of weeks ago, I was talking design ideas with my friend, Cyle, from the Etsy shop Hope Farm & Hunny B., and we came to the realization that we were both working on rainbow themed items! We decided that this would be a great time to collaborate.

Cyle brought over her gorgeous rainbow painted wood cut, I made a rainbow layer cake and JD brought his mad photography skills. What resulted is one of the sweetest photo shoots!

One of the items in the rainbow collection is this rag garland cake topper. I love how it’s so simple, but has a huge WOW factor on top of what you think is a plain, white cake. We took a ton of photos before we cut the cake. I was really hesitant to make this cake because of time and the fear that it would not turn out like I wanted.

But when I cut into that cake….

I knew it was totally worth it.

What an impact! It all turned out so perfectly beautiful. It certainly brightened our cold and cloudy day.

rainbow cake and ice cream

Don’t you just want to dive into that plate? But wait, that ice cream? It’s not real! Well, it’s real, but it’s not ice cream. That’s one of the tricks JD taught me. He taught me how to make fake ice cream for photo shoots. I’ll save that little secret for another blog post.

I’ll be adding my rainbow items to my shop this week. Right now, the collection includes a scalloped bunting, a mini triangle bunting and the rag garland cake topper. You will be able to purchase them separately or as a whole collection. You can also check out that beautiful rainbow wood cut from Cyle’s shop Hope Farm & Hunny B.

I can see this theme being used for birthdays, showers, weddings and more!
