It turns out Tahini makes a yummy, creamy vegan base for salad dressings and sauces. I decided to try making a Tahini Ranch Dressing and it turned out delicious!

I recently bought a jar of Tahini from Thrive Market. My intention was to use it to make hummus, but I also wanted to see if there were other recipes I could use it in.

I have been making my own Ranch dressing for years. I have a blend of herbs and seasonings that I add to mayonnaise and then I add in buttermilk or milk that I have added acid to until I get the consistency I want. So, for this version of the dressing, I wanted to use the same spices but create a vegan, dairy-free vehicle. This tahini salad dressing is the perfect thing!

What is Tahini?

If you aren’t familiar with Tahini, it is a paste made from hulled sesame seeds. It’s kind of like peanut butter. Where peanut butter is ground peanuts, Tahini is ground sesame seeds. Neat, huh.? Tahini is used a lot in Middle Eastern recipes. It is a superfood that can benefit your body in the following ways: regulate blood pressure, balance hormones, rejuvenate skin cells and more. Isn’t it awesome that this recipe not only tastes good, but it’s healthy, too?

I find that making my own dressings is well worth the effort. To me, homemade dressings are healthier and taste WAY better than anything store bought. In a few minutes, you can whip up a quick vinaigrette or creamy dressing using just a few ingredients. I try to keep good quality olive oil, a variety of vinegars and dried seasonings on hand all the time. Now, I plan to keep a jar of Tahini in my pantry all the time and not just for making hummus.

How to use Tahini Ranch Dressing

I made a salad with baby greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, chick peas, red onion and some leftover roasted Brussels Sprouts.  But, feel free to get creative with this dressing. Use it as a dip for baby veggies. Spread it on a sandwich. There are so many ways to enjoy this Tahini Ranch Dressing!

By the way, Thrive Market is my new favorite online way to shop for things like Tahini—Thrive sells all the top organic and healthy products at wholesale prices (25-50% off), and ships straight to my door! I have been a member for about a year and have found so many great products there. I order a lot of my raw nuts and nut butters from Thrive.

So, go try this tahini salad dressing recipe. It’s a variation of a classic salad dressing, that will have you wanting to dip and drizzle ALL the veggie things!
