In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sliced fresh ginger (about a 4" piece that has been peeled and sliced).
Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer until all the sugar is dissolved.
Add 1/2 cup of cranberry sauce. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove from heat. Let it steep for about 15 minutes. The longer it steeps the stronger the ginger flavor.
Cool completely and store in the fridge.
