If It’s Tuesday, I’m Cleaning My Toilets

Quite a few years ago, as I was rocking being a mother to a new baby, a 10 year old and a 13 year old, I came up with a plan to help me stay on track with my household chores. Ok, I was actually a hot mess just trying to deal with having a baby and being a stay at home mom again after so many years. I needed some kind of household action plan to keep me from going over the edge.

So, I devised a daily cleaning plan. I also created a FaceBook Page and called it Toilet Tuesday. Guess what the plan was for Tuesdays?? Yep! Tuesday was bathroom day. You know what…that is the only part of the plan that I still stick to. I really want to get back to using the whole plan. I need a regular schedule now that school has started or else I will squander all my kid-free time scrolling through FaceBook or strolling through Target.

Here is the exact plan I wrote up. Ignore the part about the baby, because he’s five now and in Kindergarten (Boom! We survived!). Whew!

Marketplace Monday: run errands (dry cleaning, drugstore, bank, grocery, etc) I usually go to the grocery a couple times of week, but I would like to start planning ahead enough to go only once.

Toilet Tuesday: Clean all bathrooms (toilet, shower, tub, sink, counter, etc)

Washing Wednesday: Wash sheets/blankets/comforters or other items that don’t get washed all too often. Fold and put away any laundry in basket. Wash as many loads as possible. Wash windows. Wash car. Wash behind your ears. (All this does not have to be done every Wednesday, you get the gist)

Think Ahead Thursday: Meal planning, grocery shopping planning, pay bills, look at bank account (unless you are like me and are scared to look, lol.) look at calendar for the next week, etc. Make meals to freeze. Basically just plan.

Floor It Friday: Vacuum, mop, sweep, swiffer, etc your floors. I vacuum about three times a week b/c of the baby  but I only mop/swiffer on fridays unless things get really nasty. I usually dust some on Friday before I vacuum.

Share the Load Saturday: Get kids to help by cleaning rooms & completing other chores (dusting). Honey Do projects.

Sit on Your a** Sunday: Sit in a church pew, sit by the lake, sit back and enjoy life. I do not have a cleaning plan for Sunday. I just do what needs to be done. The goal is to have nothing to do except maybe clean up the kitchen.

This plan hits all of my sore spots: the bathrooms, the floors and laundry. I clean the kitchen everyday b/c we use it. The kids have small chores during the week like unloading the dishwasher, taking out trash/recycling. I am still tweaking it. But a plan should be able to evolve to fit the user.

I want, no,  I NEED Toilet Tuesday back in my life. So, I thought I would share it with you and maybe we could do it together. Come on! It’ll be fun. Let me know what you think.
