The other evening, my hubby was hankering for something different in the cocktail realm. His usual cocktail is beer or sometimes bourbon on the rocks. But he was reading a book where the main character likes to drink cocktails like Old Fashioneds and Vodka Gimlets. He got inspired to try a new drink.
He thumbed through a book we have called The Complete Bartender by Robyn M. Feller and came across a recipe for a Vodka Gimlet. It called for making the gimlet with Rose’s lime juice and vodka on the rocks. I am not a fan of Rose’s lime juice. Plus we didn’t have any on hand. I decided to take matters into my own hands and make a lime simple syrup to go into these Vodka Gimlets. I have been sort of obsessed with making simple syrups. Why not lime?
The lime syrup turned out really tasty. It made my version of the Vodka Gimlet turn out tangy and limey, but not too sweet. Here’s my version of this classic cocktail served up in a sweet little vintage coupe glass. Make one for yourself and a friend today. Sip away!
Ingredients
- 3 oz Lime Simple Syrup (recipe below)
- 4 oz vodka
- Juice of 1/2 of a fresh lime
- slices of lime
