Embrace the Moment: “The Earth Laughs In Flowers”

by Kimbrough

We don’t see a lot of Fall leaves here on the coast of Georgia. Part of me misses that. But we have mild weather, palm trees, green grass, beautiful marshes and the ocean, so who can complain? We live where a lot of people only get to spend vacation. I’ve been here over three years and it is still an amazing place to me.

We may not have piles of leaves but we have wildflowers.

The Earth laughs in flowers.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

If this is true then Coastal Georgia is in full belly laugh mode right now! There are gorgeous yellows, whites and pinks that line the roads out where we live. I drive by them everyday, longing to stop and gather as many as I can hold.

Today, I did just that!

I couldn’t resist the temptation any longer. I pulled over on my way home from the Y this morning, grabbed my scissors out of the glove box and climbed into the roadside scruff. I have the bug bites to prove it, but now I also have this sweet bunch of flowers on the table in my hallway.

I keep scissors in my car for occasions such as this. You never know when you might get the urge to pick roadside flowers. I don’t just stop and smell the flowers, I pick them.

I love this post, Kim! You remind me of Tanne. I remember, as a child, riding alongside my mother in the Spring when she gathered flowers like yours along the road. In the Fall, she would pull miles and miles of grapevines for making wreathes! Thank you for triggering those memories. LOVE, OTF

Oliver, what sweet memories! I love your Mama's style. I do a lot of decorating with plants I find in my yard. I have never made grapevine wreaths, but my grandfather used to make them, too. I need to try my hand at that. Love you, friend!
