Kiwi Gin Sours

Kiwi Gin Sours

Ahhhh, let’s dive into Spring with these Kiwi Gin Sours. Seriously, can there be a better-colored cocktail for the beginning of the “green” season? Nature seems to be coming back to life after a cold winter and I couldn’t be happier about it.

This recipe was inspired by these beautiful and I am sure super tasty Blueberry Gin Sours I found over at Supergolden Bakes. Instead of blueberries, I made a purée of Kiwi fruit to use as the base of this beverage. The result is this dreamy, light green cocktail with a sweet-tart taste.

Sours are a traditional class of cocktails that arrived on the scene sometime in the mid to late 1800s. Did you know that the Margarita is a sour as is the Sidecar, the Daiquiri and of course, the Whiskey Sour? The base of a gin sour is gin, lemon juice and a sugar, such as simple syrup. If you add soda to a gin sour, it becomes a gin fizz.

The egg white in this cocktail is optional, but I like adding it because it adds a richness. The egg white doesn’t change the taste, but it does enhance the flavors. If you are skeptical about adding it, no worries. It’s completely optional. You will still love these Kiwi Gin Sours regardless!
