Cranberry Daiquiri: Entertaining with Powell & Mahoney

by Kimbrough

This post is in partnership with Powell & Mahoney Craft Cocktail Mixers, but opinions are 100% my own.

Holiday meals are not complete without some kind of cranberry side dish. In my family, Thanksgiving means either the obligatory canned cranberry sauce or if someone, usually me, feels compelled to go a step further we have homemade cranberry sauce. At Christmas, we pay homage to my Grandmother and Great Aunt with a cranberry congealed salad.

So maybe neither of those cranberry dishes interest you. Then how about a cranberry cocktail? If that’s something you can get behind, I have created this Cranberry Daiquiri just for you.

When most people think of a daiquiri, they think of some kind of frozen concoction that comes out of a machine or a blender. But a classic daiquiri is a rum and lime based drink that is mixed in an ice-filled shaker and poured into a chilled flute, martini or coupe glass.

Powell & Mahoney’s Cosmopolitan Mixer is the perfect flavor base for this Cranberry Daiquiri. This all natural mixer combines the fresh flavors of cranberries, lime juice, and orange juice. Sure you can make a mean Cosmo with this mixer, but you can also think outside the box and make a beautiful Cranberry Daiquiri.

For this holiday delight, combine the Cosmopolitan Mixer, a squeeze of lime and some white rum in a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice. Give it a good shake and pour into a chilled glass. I love to serve these in vintage coupe glasses. Who doesn’t love to drink from beautiful glasses like these?

Before serving, be sure to add a couple of Boozy Cranberries as a garnish. I make mine by starting with a simple syrup: one cup of water and one cup of sugar. Bring it to a boil to dissolve the sugar and then add a cup of fresh cranberries. Cook them for a few seconds or until they begin to pop. Remove from the heat and add a cup and a half of rum. Let the mix cool, then refrigerate until serving time. Serve them in a pretty dish or jar and invite your guests to spoon them into their cocktails.

This Cranberry “dish” is sure to be a hit at your holiday gathering.
