I have been working on a new slant for this blog and it involves pairing tasty happy hour snacks with the perfect cocktail. Food and drink are my passion and what better way to explore that than offering you ideas for serving small bites and tasty beverages to your friends and family.
What is the perfect partner for my Crostini with Goat Cheese, Berries and Honey? A classic Aperitif! Did you know that an Aperitif is a pre-dinner drink that is light on alcohol and very refreshing. It is meant to stimulate the appetite, but is light enough and won’t get you too tipsy.
One of the most quintessential Italian aperitifs is an Aperol Spritz. The actual ingredients of Aperol are unknown to all but a few, but it contains a mixture of bitter orange, herbs, and rhubarb. It is similar to, but not to be confused with its cousin, Campari, because it has less alcohol and not quite such a bitter bite. The official Aperol Spritz is 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and 1 part Soda. So, it’s easy to make and easy to drink as well.
This classic cocktail paired with a delicious appetizer can transform the ordinary day into something magical. So, this weekend, break out the Aperol, spread some goat cheese on a crostini, close your eyes and pretend you are sitting on an Italian Piazza and enjoy!
